Documentary Recommendation: “Full Report – Usedom Beachcup” (ARD Mediathek)
If you’d like a behind-the-scenes look at the world’s largest beach volleyball tournament, we highly recommend the impressive documentary about the Usedom Beachcup in Karlshagen.
The film vividly shows how the event at the Baltic Sea beach is prepared — the venue sells out within minutes, and volunteers transform the beach into a massive beach volleyball arena. They erect playing fields, steel stands, and food & drink stations—despite equipment failures, weather challenges, and organizational chaos.
It’s truly a love letter to the sport, the community, and all those who give their all every year to make this event happen.

Timmendorfer Strand ‘Too Small for Growth’ (Official Explanation)
The German Volleyball Association (DVV) has officially confirmed that, starting in 2026, the German Beach Volleyball Championships will no longer take place at the traditional location of Timmendorfer Strand. The decision to move the event comes in response to the limited capacity at the old venue.
- New Location: Revierpark Wischlingen in Dortmund will host the final tournament for the first time from 27 to 30 August 2026. The vision for the future includes a festival atmosphere with a temporary stadium accommodating at least 6,000 spectators and on-site camping facilities.
- Background & Objective: Since 1993, the championships have traditionally taken place at Timmendorfer Strand — always sold out. Moving to Dortmund was chosen to allow the event to be better organized and taken to a larger scale. The long-term vision is to make the German Championships the largest beach volleyball tournament in the world.
