One frequently asked question is now clearly defined: Can I set the ball on the first contact in beach volleyball?
Consecutive Contacts (9.2.2.2.):
During the team’s first contact, consecutive touches are allowed as long as the ball is not played overhand with the fingers and the contacts occur within a single action.
However, if the first team contact is played overhand using the fingers, the ball may not touch the fingers/hands consecutively, even if the contacts happen in a single motion.
This means that a first contact set (overhead pass) is allowed, but the ball must not touch the fingers multiple times. In other words, it must be played very cleanly.
Additionally, when defending a hard-driven attack with an overhead pass, the ball may be held slightly longer.
Another common question has also been clarified: Can I set the ball over the net in beach volleyball?
Yes, you can set the ball over the net, but only if the ball’s trajectory is perpendicular to your shoulder line (13.2.5). This means you must align your body with the direction in which you are playing the ball.
It is not allowed to stand parallel to the net and set the ball sideways to the left or right. Additionally, make sure to avoid a double contact, as this would be a violation under rule 9.2.2.2.
Expansion of the Beach Pro Tour
The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour has announced an expansion of the main draws for Elite16 tournaments to 24 teams and for Challenge tournaments to 32 teams. Additionally, the prize money per event will be increased by $100,000.
European Championship 2025 in Düsseldorf
The CEV EuroBeachVolley 2025 will take place from July 30 to August 3 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Defending European champions Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann are expected to compete for the title in front of their home crowd.
German Beach Tour 2025.
Die German Beach Tour 2025 umfasst acht Turniere in fünf Städten, darunter Düsseldorf, Bremen, Heidelberg, München und Kühlungsborn. Den Abschluss bildet traditionell die Deutsche Meisterschaft in Timmendorfer Strand.
Der Start der Turnierserie beginnt am 10.05. in Düsseldorf.
